Donielle and I spent the better part of an entire day at the Chatuchak Weekend market on the northern side of Bangkok. It's an interesting place full of all different kinds of sights, smells and excitement. It's about the cheapest place on earth to buy designer Diesel Jeans for (about $12...are who knows if they are real???) and anything else you might want (furniture, socks, kitchen accessories, shark fin soup). While we were at the market all day we were only able to partake in a tiny portion of what was available. After parting with a good portion of our trip "souvenier" funds, we headed back to Khao San to dine on middle eastern food (for a break from the traditional Thai food).
This is our last night in Bangkok before we trek north to Chiang-Mai. Bangkok is an amazing place but the most striking aspect to me is how crowded the city is. There isn't a single square foot of space that isn't put to human use. Even the numerous alleys off the street of Khao San are packed with vendors peddling their wares, women cooking Phat Thai (or fried crickets) or Tuk-Tuk drivers that offer to take you all over the city for 10 bhat (tip #1 don't trust them). I don't think either one of us could ever stay here long term because I think we would be completely overwhelmed by the city. We're all ready craving a quite peaceful city where you can hear your thoughts and relax.......you know a peaceful city like Chicago.
